Waterfalls at 9/11 Memorial
Those
waterfalls are in Lower Manhattan area and were built in the same place where
Twins Towers once stood, in honor of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001
when a lot of people died. The purpose of this symbol is to reflect about this
unfortunate event.
Waterfalls
have the same circumference size as the Twin Towers before the attack. For that
reason, are the largest manmade waterfalls in North America.
Around
the waterfalls, the architect design a structure of bronze with the names of
every person to remind us the largest loss of life resulting from a foreign
attack.
I
think it’s a beautiful way to remember this sad event. While the sphere
communicate us the damage caused by the attack and the post-event, waterfalls
transmit a feeling of peace and a way to preserve the memory of those who lost
their lives. From my point of view, the water in continuous movement could be a
symbol of the reflection and the memory that are still present in the
American’s mind.
Similarly,
Mexico had a difficult event in 1968 when many students died during a fight
with Mexican government at Tlatelolco’s Plaza, but we don’t have a sight to
remember it. However, talking about historical moments we have other kinds of
symbols in the city. The Revolution Monument is a sight to remember one of the
most important event that happened in the history of Mexico.
I forgot to mention waterfalls in my post but I think was the best way to honor to the victims from the terrorist attack and I think the mexican goverment had to build something similar to remember the earthquake victims which died in 1985.
